Lion Punch Art

Happy Birthday Amy!  Today is my niece`s birthday.  She is turning 11!  It is difficult to know what to make for my niece.  She is not a very girly girl nor is she a total tomboy.  So I decided to try my hand at another punch art card I saw on Jackie Topa`s website. 

I punched out the blossom twice in More Mustard and sponged the edge with More Mustard Ink.  I also punched out another blossom using So Safrron (this piece was used for the paws on the sign).  Again, I sponged  it with More Mustard.  Using my stylus, I curled the edges of the lion`s mane up to give it some dimension.  I had some scrap So Saffron that was already embosssed, so I decided that it would be perfect for the lion`s face as nobody`s face is smooth.  I also sponged the edges with More Mustard.  Once all the pieces were sponged, I layered them using pop-ups.  For the paws, I had cut out one of the petals and layered that piece a little lower than the head.

I hand drew the freckles and the whislers.  Punched out the nose using the heart from the Owl Punch and the eyes.  I then added the wiggly eyes to give it the surprise expression he has. 

Mounted the DS paper onto cardstock, tyed the Baker`s Twine around, stamped my sentiment and mounted that onto Cherry Cobbler.

I think he is absolutely adorable!

Birthday Angler

I am a day late in posting my birthday card for my brother.  You see, I have difficulty creating any kind of masculine cards but did have an idea – I just needed to think it out.  This is also my first time breaking out the Midnight Muse cardstock.

My brother is an avid fisher, and although he doesn’t get out as often as he would like to, I know he will appreciate this card.

My original idea was to do triple stamping with the fishes but when I saw this stamp amongst the hundreds of other stamps I have, I knew this it had to be main focal point.  So in essence, this card is not actually triple stamping but rather double stamping.  I apologize in advance as I do not know the name of this stamp set, but it is similar to the SU Angler set.  If anybody knows the name of the set or company, I would love to know.

I also wanted to do an ocean scene, but because I was limited in time, I decided I would go with the shaving cream technique – something that I have done in a long time, but am very pleased that I have.

Hi everyone!

I must say I was tickled pink when I was asked to participate as a weekly guest designer as Sunny Challenges.  This week`s challenge is Fancy Folds.  Now I have to admit, I don`t think I`ve ever made a card with this type of fancy fold – and I was a little apprehensive on taking this on this project, but here is what I have come up with.

You take a 5 1|4” x 12” card base and score at 2”, 4”, 8” and 10”.  Mountain fold the score lines so that the edges are facing the outside of the card.

I added the black layer under the DS paper to give it a bit of dimension.

Stamped the Happy Birthday medallion and punched it out with the small scallop punch.  Punch out a large scallop in real red using the large scallop punch and layer.  Now here`s the tricky part – only apply sticky strips or glue to half of the medallion and not the whole thing, otherwise, you will glue it shut.

The balloons were added as an afterthought to try and keep the flaps closed – it didn`t quite work but I love the effect it gives, plus it gave me a chance to use the baker`s twine I had but didn`t know quite how to add it to a card.

I also layered the inside with a layer of black just so it will match the outside and stamped the party hats (using my markers).

Lego Birthday Card

My third take on making a lego card (not really, as I cased this one but cannot remember the person who I cased it from).  Although I wouldn’t exactly call it a lego card – more like a duplo card!  LOL – the blocks were big!  This time, I added with the white gel pen, the little shine that you will see in the real blocks.

The measurements are as follows:

Two button block:  1-1/4” x 5/8”

Six button block:  1-1/4” x 1-3/4”

Eight button block:  1-1/4” x 2-1/2”

Birthday Lego Card - Take 2

So here is my second take on making a lego card.  I absolutely love the way it turned out!  This is a great way of using up all the little scraps in your scrap bin – although I wish I could use more of it. I was trying to think of all the colours my son’s lego had, but I think you can almost use any colour to suit any gender.  Obviously, my DH liked this one better than the lego head.

After punching out the circles, I edge them with their coordinating inks to give it some depth.  Popped them up on pop-ups.  By the time I had all the circles popped up, this made a very heavy card and would think twice about mailing it.  The only little stamp that I could find to fit the word window was the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Happy Moments SU set. 

The measurements are as follows:

Two button block:  1-1/4” x 5/8”

Four button block:  1-1/4” x 1-1/4”

Five button block:  5/8” x 3-1/4”

Eight button block:  1-1/4” x 2-1/2”

Lego Head Card

Happy Birthday Sajan!

So there is nothing like doing things last minute.  Most of you know me by now where I am usually up the nite before preparing for either a class or making a card for somebody.  But this time, I swear it was not preventable.  My youngest DS received a birthday invite on Wednesday.  So Thursday evening after field hockey, we whipped up to Wal-Mart to purchase a birthday gift.  Owen tells me that Sajan loves legos, so Owen purchased a new lego set for his friend.  I had one of these “aha!” moment and thought wouldn’t it be nice to make a card to go with the present.

So when we got home, I set off to make Sajan’s card (I actually made three).  When I was done, I presented it to my DH and to my oldest son, both of whom laughed at what I made and also queried what it was.  I thought, hmf!  I’ll wait until the morning so that Owen can decide for himself. 

In the morning, I showed Owen the card, and immediately a smile came to his face along with a little giggle and said that’s the card for Sajan!  Instantly, I knew it was a hit.

This card measures 6”x6”.  I had notched out the corners measuring 1-1/2” in from both sides and 1” down / up from the top and bottom.  Rounded out the corners, and added my face using the ½” circle punch and the large oval punch.

If you haven’t figured out what this is, it is a lego head.  What I need to do is make the top and bottom button narrower the next time.

Best Fishes

Here is a great little card for somebody who has a summer birthday.  It is suppose to be a window card.  I stamped the fishes onto pumpkin pie in black ink and cut them out. 

Stamped the front of the card as well as the inside using the bubbles to give it that look of being underwater.

I then punched out two circles – the top right being bigger than the bottom left.  I punched out the circles and using a smaller circle punch, punched out the centre.  I added the acetate between the punched out circles and the card front and to make it look like windows.  The most difficult part was trying not getting glue onto the acetate. 

On the inside of the card, I added the flourishes using the Old Olive ink to make it look like seaweed. 

Tied my ribbon to the front and we are done!  I hope you have a wonderful day!

Sweet Ellie

Happy Birthday Miss Maddie!

My niece’s birthday is today and she is turning 8!  She loves Hello Kitty, and I was going to make her a card, but I couldn’t find any sizzix / Cricut cartridges in time, so she will have to settle for Sweet Ellie!  I adore this little elephant!  I hope she enjoys the card as much as I have enjoyed making it!

It’s a good thing that I am hand-delivering this card as it would cost me a fortune to mail it!  Look at all the layers – If you count – there are 3 layers ton the front base of the card (not including the other layers)and on the inside, there is another 3 layers.

With or without sprinkles?

I made this card for my niece’s birthday who is turning 18, but is still very young at heart!  Some like sprinkles on their ice cream, some do not.  What do you like?  I like them either way!  Can't be too fussy when it comes to treats!  I embossed the ice cream part using SU’s new smelly embossing powder and the cherry with the cherry embossing powder.  Not only does it look yummy, it smells yummy too!  I hope they come out with more flavours! I would love to hear from you what you would prefer!

Meet Ellie!

Happy Birthday Amy!  Today is my niece`s birthday.  She is turning 9 today. 

Over the holidays, I picked up a new robe – it is white with colourful polka dots.  My husband told me that it reminded him of one of the toys from Rudolph and the misfit toys.  So that`s where my inspiration came from.  I am not very fond of colouring and wasn`t too thrilled about having to colour ¨Miss Ellie¨, so instead, I paper-pieced her.  I think she turned out very cute!

 I stamped the inside the card with 3 balloons.

Last Birthday Card for January!

Woo hoo, I am done!  I finally got my last birthday card done!  This one is for my brother, whose birthday is on Saturday.  Now I get to play a bit (not really, but I`d like to think that I can). 

I found the image difficult to ink up, after several tries, I finally managed to get an image that I was happy with.  In order to get the dark image I wanted, I had my stamp upside down and using my ink pad, I patted the image over and over and over again onto the ink pad.  If you do it the other way (stamp to ink pad) the middle portion of the stamp will not ink up very well.

I ran the real red cs through the stripes embossing folder and adhered it to the front of my whisper white card base.  I then ran the pacific point through the dotted embossing folder.  Added a strip early expresso (punched using the scallop trim border punch) to the bottom of the pacific point.

I reinked the cupcake portion in pacific point, cut out and adhered to the front.  I then added the cherry cobbler glitter to the cherry and to the heart to give it some pizzaz!  I love the brightness of this card!

Birthday Card for my Dad

My card for my daddy.  My dad isn`t much a card guy but is still very much a kid at heart. This is using the stamp set Elementary Elegance from the Sale-a-Bration catty and any card using Crumb Cake and Chocolate Chip make great masculine cards!  I absolutely love how you can use the Curly Label punch to punch out the middle part. 

So I stamped the main image using Chocolate Chip and added a little strip across the middle giving it little tails on either end.  I stamped the Happy Birthday on a scrap of cs and punched it out using the Curly Label Punch.  Sponged around it to give it more vintage look and adhered it using dimensionals over the strip.  I added three little pearls to either side of my strip of chocolate chip and then layered the Crumb Cake onto chocolate chip.

Haha, 3 cards down, 1 to go.  Not bad for a day of playing!  Let's see if I can get my last card made later tonight.  Wish me luck.

Mixed Bunches Birthday Card

So besides celebrating Chinese New Year in January, we have four birthdays to celebrate as well.  Well I managed to get my sister`s card done. This was a fairly quick and easy card to assemble.  I layered a strip of pink pirouette dsp and gave it little tails. 

I punched the Cranberry Crisp using the new Blossom Punch.  Stamped the flower using pink pirouette and cut it out by hand – I didn`t want to use the punch as I wanted the cuts along the petals to go all the way down so that I am able to curl the edges up.  I stamped the smaller blossom in cranberry crisp – you can use the 1inch circle punch with this, but I chose to cut it out by hand to emphasize the little flower and added a gold brad to the centre.  Mounted it using dimensionals.

Card Swaps

So I didn’t get a chance to blog as much as I wanted to in the past few weeks.  I think I may have taken on more than I can handle ~ I’ll explain more later.  I decided I wanted to join a swap through Stampin Connection – this is where all demonstrators can pow wow.  I signed up for two spots in the hopes of making a feminine and a masculine birthday card.  The feminine one was easy peasy as I cased E. Holloway’s card as I absolutely love it.

 The masculine card wasn’t as easy as I had hoped it would be as I soon realized I didn’t have any current masculine stamp sets or ones that I didn’t want to use in any event.  But overall, I think I really like this – it is bright and cheery and will put a smile on anybody's face whether young or old!  Let me know your thoughts!

As soon as I saw this card, I knew I had to case it for my girlfriend Trish!

This is flip-flop card.

Here are the dimensions/directions:

Cut a 7 x 6 1/4" piece of orange cs. Cut a 6-3/4" x 6" piece of printed paper. Center and adhere to orange cs.

Score 1" vertical lines beginning at top, 3" and 4" from left edge; repeat at bottom.

Cut a 2-3/4" x 4-1/4" rectangle from orange cs. Adhere to center of card between score lines; cut around left and right edges, stopping at scored lines.

Fold card along scored lines so that left side is on top.

Stamp Bathing Beauty (Rubbernecker) and Ethel in Swimsuit (Rubbernecker) onto white cs; colour with markers and cut out. Adhere Bathing Beauty onto green cs and trim, leaving narrow borders. Adhere stamped images to centre panel so Bathing Beauty is visible when card is closed.

Stamp greeting onto scraps of orange cs; trim around words and adhere to card as shown.

Lovely as a Tree - Hers

Here is a feminine card made with my once again favourite stamp set, Lovely as a Tree. Using the group of trees, I stamped in Riding Hood Red onto whisper white. Although you may not be able to see it, I sponged Pink Pirouette around the trees just to take the brightness off and to create a pink sky.

I ripped a piece of ds paper (non SU) - one edge larger than the other and mounted the large one on the bottom and the smaller piece at top.

I then mounted the maine piece onto a Riding Hood Red cs. Tied a knot in the ribbon and wrapped it around the back. I stamped the sentiment onto a little punch in Riding Hood Red and then overstamped it with a leaf in Pink Pirouette. Using a silver cord, I tied it onto the rbibbon.

I then mounted the piece with pop-ups and mounted it on Pink Pirouette, and voila, here is your feminine card!

Birthday Angler

Here is my second last birthday card! I am almost done! Woo hoo!

I used the Angler set and stamped onto watercolour paper. To get the two different colours, I used my markers, gave it a huff and stamped. I then used my aqua painter to watercolour the image just to blend it up a bit.

I cut the front flap off at 2 1/4", added my DS paper (retired Treehouse). On the inside, I used the fish stamp from Angler to make my background paper by stamping randomly the fish all over.

Then stamped the "Happy Birthday" sentiment in Night of Navy in the right bottom corner. I didn't have any SU "Happy Birthday" stamps to fit in that corner.

This is this the first time I have ever used water colour paper and absolutely love it!

I added the photo mount at the last minute just to hold the card closed. Otherwise, this was a really easy card to make.

Sock Monkey Birthday Card

Happy Monday!

Here is my birthday card for my youngest DS who absolutely loves monkeys - Curious George that is! Red is also his favourite colour.

I cheated with the balloons and rather than stamping the balloons and then cutting them out, I used my balloon punch that has been sitting in my drawer for ages. I outlined the balloons with a marker.

The whole monkey is paper pieced using some retired Stampin UP DS paper from a few years back. I'm beginning to like paper piecing as it does not require any colouring, although the cutting out takes some time!

I guess when you're under the gun, things get done! Two down, two more to go, plus a wedding card!

"DUDE"

This is one of my series of birthday cards that I will be posting. My DS turned 10 this month. I made 2 versions of this card and asked DH which was his favourite. He picked the card on the right.

The card on the left, you can pull the ribbon out to reveal the word "Dude". See below for more details.

The stamp set is from Close to My Heart. The card size is 5x7.

Using the skateboard, I stamped the background using onto the Basic Grey cs. Stamped the skater boy and masked him. I then stamped the skateboard. Masking part of the skater boy made it look like he was holding onto his skateboard.

I coloured him in using my copic markers (I stil require a bit more practice), but loved the effect.

I then punched out a large star and a smaller star and mounted them both together with a star brad. The DS paper is from SU Spring-Summer Catalogue.

Stamped "Dude" onto a white scrap of cs and punched either side and then threaded the red ribbon through and added the brads on either sides.

This was my second version of the card, only it is the standard 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. I added the red ribbon on the side so you can pull out the tab. Otherwise, it is pretty much the same card.

Gift Card Holder

Wow, where did the time go? I can't believe that it is already the middle of July! I sure hope that you are all enjoying the nice weather. We have been waiting patiently for the sun to show and long and behold, it finally came the first of July! Woohoo! I'm loving the heat!


This is a birthday gift card holder I made for my niece who just turned 10! Can you believe double digits - which means a whole new chapter in her life.


I used an old retired stamp set "Totally Cool". This is one set that I don't think I can give up! I absolutely love it for girly cards!


I stamped the girl 5x - once on my main card front, and 3x each on different DS scrap paper. I cut out the pants, the purse, the headband and the two shopping bags and paper pieced them onto my main image. I also stamped her face once again in Chocolate Chip, cut out the sunglasses and mounted them using foam mount. Coloured her top, the present and her shoes using my ink pad.

This is the inside of the card. As you can see, I made the gift card holder into a standard size card (4 1/4" x 5 1/2"). This way you can still write a message and insert your gift card without losing your gift card.

I am absolutely thrilled with the way it turned out!
